Songs and Storyboards

Finally after much gnashing of teeth and tearing of hair, we can proudly present the rest of the storyboard and the rough version of the songs – sung by Rob in falsetto.  Please flip around inside the pdf files to turn the storyboards up the right way.

Got location permission – Hooray

We’ve got permission to film in Merthyr Mawr.

Only one condition, not to disturb ground for archeaological reasons.

Therefore pond has to be raised off ground in some way.

Also, suggestion that we might take wheelbarrows on there in order to carry stuff.(Coral)

Sound

Hi Owen from Coral

I’ve asked permission for the air conditioning to be turned off in the studio during the shoot.

We might not be successful, so we need a good atmos to cover dialogue in that screen – anything belonging to Gods.

Chromakey – Gods

Chaps,

I thought I’d summarise some discussions about the God space.  Humphry is going away to LA today (lucky bugger) and hopefully Don and Humphry and myself will meet today and confirm things.

The question was whether we could get coverage properly using green screens and alternate shots.  Nimal, Cirrus and myself did some shotlisting and came up with tracking shots etc., things that I realised later were incompatible with green screen.  I therefore thought, given that Don was keen on the “Greenaway” type set, that we should try this.

However, in discussion with Humphry, we realised that the screen on the ceiling needs to be very simple, we haven’t got much time, and the best way of establishing gods on there would be simple green screen.  This hasn’t definitely been decided (today lunchtime will be deadline), but if we go with green screen, we will have to avoid tracks and camera movement, and go with simple statics.  O/S and reverses should be OK, provided we get different backgrounds in shot and we have enough green screen.

I’ll get back to you soon.

Through a scanner…darkly

For those of you that want to upload youtube stuff here, just paste the link in the ‘video’ section (Just keep an eye on the file size!).  Green screen gives us more flexibility, and the darker the better! Some stark contrast MOVING lighting would really put the production ‘values’ on screen.  I would need to discuss this with Humphrey, as I don;t know the success rate of dark vs. the green screen (which sounds like a GREAT title for a b-movie :-)) I’m going to upload a clip of the 2006 film “A Scanner Darkly’, not for the style but for a possible solution for the male/female shots…….

Greenaway and Gods

Thanks Don for loading these (how did you do it?)

They are pretty good for the stylisation of the Gods, particularly “The Thief…”.   Do we need greenscreen for them, or can we perhaps do something like this in the studio?  I like the dark background, and it’s also simpler.  What do you think?

Tiresias

Wow, (Coral writing)

I think Leonie’s mock up is great, as is the Tiresias figure.  I love the eyeless muddy quality and with a bit of gender fluidity, should be great.

Does he/she need to be shot at Merthyr Mawr or on greenscreen?

Editing and coverage

We had an initial meeting with Nimal, Cirrus, Coral W and myself yesterday about the early part of the storyboard.

What emerged was the importance of having a selection of coverage of scenes on multiple screens so that we can make sure we have control of pace in the editing.

This seems to be OK so far, as the Gods are able to be shot from several angles and several sizes, and can be isolated individually.  Tiresias can also be shot like this, but there’s an added advantage of mixing between male and female Tiresias giving edit cover.
